Do you want to know about traditional Japanese toy?? Naramachi Mechanical museum(karakuri omchakan ) is the perfect place for you to see traditional non-digital and very hands-on toys from Edo period. You can see, pick up and play with them! It’s Free admission fee, why don’t we visit there? I am sure you will leave here with big smile after play with toys!
What’s Naramachi Karakuri Omochakan? This is a toy museum located in Central Naramachi where built in the 23rd year of the Meiji period. (1890) The building has many traditional features and operated by a local NPO.
This musium hold total of 600 toys and about 30 items are on display. Toys are made with natural materials such as wood, bamboo, Japanese paper(washi paper) etc. Items are rotated every two month from a collection of about 200 items.
What you can do at Karakuri Omochakan? All toys, visitors can pick up, touch and play with.
Toys are made from natural material, please be gentle to pick them up and play.
There is a hand making experience class once a month on Saturday or Sunday. You need to fill up the form and send to the Omochakan.
